Two scholarship opportunities are available to maintain high-quality STEM education in Iowa. The Regents Alternative Pathway to Intern Licensure (RAPIL) Scholarship is offered to professionals enrolled in the RAPIL Program who are pursuing an Iowa teaching license in STEM fields. The STEM Latest Information for Teachers (LIfT) Scholarship is available to help current STEM educators gain training and experience in the fast-paced advancements of STEM fields at an Iowa community college or university.
A total of 31 STEM scholarships were awarded this fall, including 23 RAPIL Scholarships and eight STEM LIfT Scholarships.
RAPIL Scholarship recipient McKinley Lain said, “The STEM RAPIL Scholarship has provided me with the financial support to put a greater focus on honing my skills as an upcoming teacher through classes and work experiences instead of the worries that come with tuition cost. Additionally, it encourages me that our state is intentionally identifying and acting on shortage areas in the K-12 educational system.”
“As a recipient of the STEM LIfT scholarship, the coursework I am completing in Foundations of Programming at UNI is directly affecting my approach to teaching the students I currently have. The depth of knowledge I am acquiring is giving me confidence as a new teacher in Computer Science,” said Pam Hayes, Fort Madison Middle School computer science teacher.
