Supporting Registered Apprenticeships in STEM

The STEM Council and Iowa Workforce Development hosted a Webinar “The Scoop on High School Registered Apprenticeships."
Inspiring Iowa’s young people to become innovative, enterprising contributors to our future workforce is part of the mission of the STEM Council. The STEM BEST Program and high school Registered Apprenticeships both work towards this goal and offer work-based experiences in preparation for future careers.
 

Strength in STEM BEST Network

Students from BCLUW engage local business partners as part of their STEM BEST Program.
The STEM acronym goes beyond science, technology, engineering and mathematics and incorporates many other disciplines and skill sets for both students and educators. BCLUW High School Science Teacher Roberta Vanderah has experienced this first-hand through their STEM BEST Program.

STEM BEST Expansion Leads to New School+Business Partnerships

STEM BEST Program students explore opportunities available in the local healthcare industry.
With 58 STEM BEST (Business Engaging Students and Teachers) models now operating throughout the state, chances are good that you are within driving distance of one or more. These invaluable work-based learning opportunities for students have grown to include nearly 100 school districts and more than 500 employers and other community partners.
 

Nineteen STEM BEST Models Taking it Up a Notch

St. Theresa in Des Moines was named a STEM BEST Program partner in 2018. The award funds helped open a Makerspace.

Building a culture to grow and expand workplace experiences, the STEM BEST Program encourages teachers and industry professionals to work side-by-side on curriculum and projects that give students actual workplace experience and an understanding of the opportunities and required skills for careers in STEM fields.
